Over 85 percent of us live in urban and suburban settings, it is not surprising therefore that city dwelling artists often use their surroundings as painting subjects.
I have always loved old buildings with weatherworn brickwork, textured old walls and masonry. The geometric perfections of skyscrapers and modern buildings don’t seem to inspire me that much and I rarely paint them. On the other hand, I like to include people as part of the composition and the narrative element; people build cities, people live in cities and people always interact with their environment. Even if I don’t include a person in the picture I like to hint of a human presence.
